Echo Hill Day Two

Hello Interweb,

Camp Life has been great lately. We've been seeing whitetail deer and all kinds of other animals, we've been canoeing, playing ball, and having a great time with our friends all over the campground. Here are some of my favorite photos.

When we're not lounging around and spending time on the water, we've been going on some some pretty serious adventures. The Echo Hill Staff has been working with us in setting group and individual goals. This morning some students did group exercises with Nate, the Director of Questions while others went with Scott and Erin to climb the Giant's Ladder, an individual challenge. I was lucky enough to participate in both. Here's some shots from the giants ladder and a video of one student riding down the zip line.

I was talking to Ms. Herrity and she said that every kid made it to their goal, or at least part of their goal. That's impressive! Students were encouraged to take on an extra challenge if they felt the climb might be too easy; there were routes that were more difficult than others, and some kids even chose to carry along an extra challenge like a rubber chicken.

The Echo Hill staff member that supervised the Ladder from the ground said that this was one of the most focused, positive, and socially aware groups that they've had come through this summer, and that everyone was looking out for everyone else the whole time.

What else can a teacher ask for?

Thank you so much for posting the pictures and great descriptions of the week's activities. Looks like everyone is having as much fun as expected (and expectations were pretty high!).

This picture of Caroline, Sydney, Anna (me), Evie, Alexis, and Lina during the campfire is so cute! The sunset in the background is goregeous, which makes the picture so interesting!

I like that picture as well. That picture was taken at the beach on hot dog roast night. What did you think of all those kids roasting hot dogs on the beach? Or what did you think about the beach in general?

@ Colleen:
They had a great time. Hopefully you got the chance to sit down with your son or daughter and talk about some of the experiences they brought back with them. For a guaranteed conversation starter, ask about privies. JE

I really like the picture of the bell in the morning. When I think of the bell I think of how it controlled the whole schedule. Every time we asked what was next, the Echo Hill counselors would just tell us to wait till the bell. I learned to hate the phrase "Echo Hill Time."

My favorite picture is when Emma, Winslow, Peter, & I are playing with the fish. We were on bay studies when this happened. Before Echo Hill I didn't especially like fish. Now, after holding and even kissing the fish, I absoloutely love them! Even though some people, some who need not be mentioned, said that fish don't have feelings, know I know that they're wrong.

I like the picture of Amelia, Anna, Helen, Sydney, and Me(Mackenzie). It was taken outside of Helen and Amelia's tent during Rest Hour. Most of the time during Rest Hour my tent would have to clean up because EBS.

I think that Echo Hill was very fun. I really enjoyed it and hope we can go back. Well i chose this picture because it’s a little funny. It’s a picture of Peter, Oliver, Naylor, and Sam. They are on the Chesapeake Bay in a boat. Oliver and Peter are holding fish. I also got to go on the boat and hold fish, that’s why I chose this.

the picture of when I was swimming in the bay reminds me of how cold the water was but how nice it was also. I really enjoyed it because it was cool and the sun was setting but there was still enough sunlight to keep you warm.

I really liked the photo of Amelia, Anna, Sydney, Mackenzie and me outide of me and Amelia's tent. We were @ my tent during rest hour when they took this photo. I like it because a lot happened during a lot of the rest hours so it's cool to see a picture of us during it. My hair looks really bad, though.

I chose the video with Irena going down the zipline because it was fun. First, you had to climb the boards or the staples to get to the top. Then, when you make it to the top you get hooked on to the zipline. Next, when your ready you jump and you go down the zipline. The zipline zips you down the cord. Finally, when your finnish zipping someone put you on the wooden steps and unhooks you from the zipline. When I climb up the boards I was scared. Then, I got over it. Going down the zipline was the best part. I had so much fun. I hope the 5th grade has fun next year.

The Echo Hill picture I liked the best was the one of Peter, Oliver and Sam holding fish. They seemed so happy to be on Bay Studies, learning about fish and getting to interact with them. It was also a fun experience for me, because I liked petting the eels. I'm glad I learned more about eels and their migration habits.

I liked the picture of Peter and Oliver holding up the fish on the boat. The boat was in the Chesapeake Bay and there we learned about the fish that live there. I also liked the fact that Captain let Johnny and i lick the fish (it was very slimy) instead of kissing it. The last reason why it was fun was that we got to tell them what we had learned before we went there. I had learned a lot of my knowledge from my Grandpa and school.
(Grandpa would have been pround)

Echo Hill was uber sweet. Best two things were adventure 2 and the cornbread. The picture i chose to blog about is the one of me ringing the bell in adventure 2 on the zipline(even though i look like a fool). It shows that if you try, you can complete any goal.
